Parliament congratulates Indian cricket team on win
Tuesday, December 16 2003 12:10 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Both Houses of Parliament today (Dec 16, 2003) congratulated the Indian cricket team for its resounding Test victory over Australia.

As senior Lok Sabha member Ram Vilas Paswan announced the victory during Question Hour, Speaker Manohar Joshi asked members to join him in sending their greetings to the Indian team.

Even as the entire House was clapping and thumping desks, Congress leader Santosh Mohan Dev walked in shouting, "Sir, India has won." The House broke into laughter.

In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat congratulated the Indian team and hoped "it would maintain the same spirit in the rest of the matches".

"I wish the team all the success," Shekhawat said as the members received the news with thumping of desks.
