Khurana quits from Delhi Assembly, retains LS seat
Wednesday, December 17 2003 14:55 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Madan Lal Khurana, who failed to steer his party to victory in the December 1 elections, today (Dec 17, 2003) resigned from the Assembly seat retaining his Lok Sabha membership.

Khurana, who was projected by the BJP as its Chief Ministerial candidate, tendered his resignation from Moti Nagar Assembly constituency to Speaker Subhash Chopra.

The decision was taken yesterday after his meeting with BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu, who directed him to retain his Lok Sabha membership from Delhi Sadar.

As per the rules, anyone elected to either Assembly or Parliament is required to quit from one of these within 15 days after election.

BJP failed to wrest power from Congress in the just concluded polls managing only 20 seats in the 70-member Assembly.
