Bihar in ruins under woman CM, says woman MP

New Delhi: It was a war of words today (Dec 18, 2003) between two women MPs from Bihar, but none of
it will figure in Lok Sabha records as the heated exchanges came after the House was adjourned for
lunch recess.
Shortly before the House was adjourned, Samata Party (SP) member Renu Kumari contended that the
law and order situation in Bihar was deteriorating.
She accused Chief Minister Rabri Devi of trying to influence the High Court Chief Justice in the wake of
the arrest of State's Chief Secretary K A H Subramaniam, triggering vociferous protests from ruling
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) members, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and Kanti Singh.
As the heated exchanges continued, Speaker Manohar Joshi adjourned the House for lunch break.
An agitated Kanti Singh said in a loud tone that Kumari has no business to cast aspersions on the Chief
Minister.
“Why not?” shot back Renu Kumari. Kanti Singh said she should keep in mind that the Chief Minister is a
woman. Kumari charged that Bihar was in ruins under her regime.
In a lighter vein, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Karabela Swain wondered what will happen when
one-third of members of the House are women in an obvious reference to the Women's reservation Bill
pending in Parliament.
"This will never be realised," quipped Raghuvansh Prasad Singh.
