Environment must be part of educational syllabi: SC
Thursday, December 18 2003 12:37 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: The Supreme Court today (Dec 18, 2003) directed all the States to strictly and fully implement its 12-year old order providing for inclusion of environment as a subject in school and college syllabi.

A Bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice P P Singh also directed the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to frame a model syllabus keeping in view the 1991 judgment of the apex court.

The court said the NCERT should submit the model syllabus before the court on or before April 14 next year (2004).

The court said it would examine the same and if found suitable would recommend for uniform application all over the country.
