Ahmedabad: The Metropolitan Court in Ahmedabad today (Dec 18, 2003) remanded two persons,
allegedly close associates of Abdul Karim Telgi, the main accused in multi-crore fake stamp paper scam,
to 10 days' CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) custody.
The accused – Shabir Ahmed Sheikh and Khalid Ahmed – were produced before the chief metropolitan
magistrate N B Ranekshah by the CBI, seeking 10 days remand for "detailed interrogation".
The accused were brought to the city after the CBI procured a transit warrant from a Karnataka court
and CBI counsel Abdul Rashid Sheikh urged the court that the agency be granted permission to take
the accused anywhere in the country for investigation.
CBI had unearthed the fake stamp paper racket in the city and had seized fake stamps worth Rs 8.5
crore from a closed house in Gatlodia area last year.
Investigations by the CBI revealed that the two were agents of Telgi and accused Khalid Ahmed used to
bring fake stamp paper and stored them at the office of Shabir Ahmed Sheikh in the city.
CBI investigations also revealed that this accused were the key agents of another accused Syed Ibrahim
Gutli who is currently in a Karnataka jail.
