Mumbai: Mumbai High Court today (Dec 19, 2003) restrained special investigating team (SIT) from
carrying out scientific tests on fake stamp paper scam accused Ramachandra Rama Reddy, but allowed
SIT to conduct these tests on eight other accused, including prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi.
Hearing a petition filed by Reddy, suspended officer of India Security Press and accused in fake stamp
paper probe, Justice Hemant Gokhale and Justice S S Parkar partly allowed interim relief of restraining
SIT from subjecting him to P-300 brain finger-printing test, lie detector test and narco-analysis test.
The judges, however, allowed the SIT to conduct tests on Abdul Karim Telgi, Manoj Mehta, Anil Kumar
Shah, Dilip Kamath, Anil Gote, Abdul Aziz Telgi, Abdul Rashid Kulkarni and Dattatraya Dal.
Prosecutor Raja Thakre informed the court that a SIT team from Pune was already in Bangalore to hold
scientific tests on the prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi. These tests would be performed today.
The court adjourned till January 6, the petition filed by Reddy challenging a special court's order of
December 15 allowing SIT to conduct these tests on nine accused. The petition will be heard for
admission on that day.
The impugned order was delivered by the special court in Pune on a prosecution's plea that
incriminating material had cropped up during the interception of telephonic talks between prime accused
Telgi and others and that it would be necessary to corroborate the alleged talks with further
interrogation of the accused by subjecting them to scientific tests.
