| | Daler denied bail; handed over to Punjab Police Monday, December 22 2003 18:09 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Noted Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi, accused in a human trafficking case, was today (Dec 20, 2003) taken into custody by Punjab Police after a Delhi court granted it one-day transit remand to produce him before a court in Patiala tomorrow.
Daler was produced amidst tight security before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Reena Singh Nag, who allowed Punjab Police request to take him in their custody.
The court rejected the bail application of Daler.
The entire proceedings were held in the chamber of CMM and the media was not allowed in.
Daler was arrested by the Delhi Police yesterday, minutes after he had submitted before the Supreme Court that he would surrender before a Patiala court on January 8.
The apex court had directed the Punjab Police to provide him adequate protection for the surrender before the appropriate court and kept his bail petition for hearing on January 16.
The singer was wanted in the case filed against him by Punjab Police.
