Assembly poll debacle: AICC office-bearers resign

New Delhi: New Delhi: All India Congress Committee (AICC) office-bearers today (Dec 22, 2003) resigned from their party posts as also from Congress Working Committee to pave the way for party chief Sonia Gandhi to restructure both the bodies ahead of Lok Sabha polls in the wake of electoral debacle in three States of Hindi heartland.

"All the office-bearers of the AICC have resigned from their respective posts to pave the way for party chief to restructure the organisational set-up ahead of next Lok Sabha polls," AICC sources said.

CWC members Ahmed Patel, Kamal Nath and Motilal Vora have confirmed their resignation and said others are also following the move.

The sources said that AICC office-bearers decided to resign two days ago when they met party chief Gandhi.
