Sonia rejects resignation of AICC office-bearers

New Delhi: In a virtual anti-climax, Congress president Sonia Gandhi late tonight (Dec 21, 2003) rejected the resignation offers of senior AICC (All India Congress Committee) office-bearers to enable her reconstitute the party's top hierarchy in the wake of debacle in recent Assembly polls in three States.

"The party president rejected the offer of resignations of CWC (Congress Working Committee) members in the AICC set-up and asked them to continue to work for the party," AICC media secretary Tom Vadakkan said.

Gandhi's direction came after some of the senior office-bearers of the AICC "voluntarily offered their resignation" to facilitate the process of reorganisation, according to party spokesman Anand Sharma.
