Mamta could get Environment in next reshuffle
Monday, December 22 2003 19:05 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee, who is currently Minister without portfolio, could get Environment in a reshuffle of Ministries likely to be undertaken by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee after the winter session of Parliament.

The name of T R Baalu, who resigned as Environment Minister along with his colleague A Raja from the Government yesterday (Dec 21, 2003) following a directive by his party Dravida Munnetra kazhagam (DMK), was listed in today's agenda of Lok Sabha to table papers related to his Ministry.

Speaker Manohar Joshi observed that the Prime Minister had authorised Mamta Banerjee to lay the papers related to Environment Ministry, fuelling speculation that she might be given the Ministry.

The winter session is scheduled to conclude tomorrow (Dec 23, 2003).
