Seven injured in grenade blast in North Kashmir Tuesday, December 23 2003 17:36 Hrs (IST) Srinagar:
In the second such attack by militants in as many days, six civilians and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan were injured when a grenade exploded in the compound of a hospital in North Kashmir district of Baramulla this afternoon (Dec 23, 2003), official sources said.
Unidentified militants lobbed a grenade towards a BSF ambulance when some personnel were alighting from it in the compound of the sub-district hospital in Bandipora township, 55 kms from Srinagar, around 12.45 hours (IST), the sources said.
The device, however, missed the intended target and exploded on the road injuring six civilians and a constable Rajinder Singh of 140 battalion.
The injured were immediately admitted to the hospital, which was immediately cordoned off by security forces to nab the militants, the sources said.
However, no one was arrested in the subsequent operation as the ultras fled the scene taking advantage of the panic among the people, they said.
Yesterday, militants had exploded a grenade at crowded bus stand in Kulgam township of Anantnag district in South Kashmir, causing splinter injuries to nine civilians and two policemen.
A security jawan was injured when a landmine exploded accidentally near the line of control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district in North Kashmir today, the sources said.
