New Delhi: Close on the heels of military action launched by Bhutan, Myanmar today (Dec 23, 2003) declared that it will flush out Indian insurgent camps, if any, in that country and assured New Delhi that it will not allow militants from Bhutan to enter its soil.

"We will flush out Indian insurgent camps, if any in our country," Foreign Minister of Myanmar U Win Aung told reporters in New Delhi.

He was asked about reports that militants from United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) and Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) were sneaking into Myanmar from Bhutan in the wake of the military action launched by the Royal Bhutan Army.

U Win said he had seen reports to this effect in the newspapers. "We have a policy of not allowing any insurgents to get into Myanmar," he said adding, "We will take whatever action is necessary."

He said Myanmar "will cooperate with the Indian Government" in this regard.

Asked about these reports, External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said India has the "fullest assurance" from Myanmar that it will not allow any insurgent group in that country.

"It is not a new commitment," he said.

Sinha said he had told the Myanmarese Minister about the military action started by the Bhutanese Government. "We agreed to look at the ground situation," he said.

The two Foreign Ministers besides their counterpart from Thailand Surakiart Sathirathai met in New Delhi to discuss the $ 700 million Trilateral Highway Project running through the three countries.

Following apprehensions voiced by India on numerous occasions, Myanmar has assured India of all cooperation in eradicating insurgent camps from its territory and not to allow groups or individuals acting inimical to India's interest to function from there.
