Bhutan Army marching towards its goal: Penjor Wednesday, December 24 2003 12:19 Hrs (IST) Guwahati:
The Royal Bhutan Army (RBA) operations against North East insurgents was heading towards its goal of total flushing out the militants there, Bhutan deputy head of mission in India Thinley Penjor said today (Dec 24, 2003).
"The final touches are being given to flushing them (ultras) from our country. It is a matter of time before they are cleared," Penjor told reporters in Guwahati over phone from New Delhi speaking on the success of the ongoing RBA operations.
The areas where the camps were located had been cordoned off and search was on for the rebels who fled after all their 30 camps were destroyed dislodging them, he said.
The Army offensives were spread from East to West of the southern part of the Kingdom as the guerrilla camps were located all along the area, Penjor said.
"As the camps were located hundreds of kilometres away from each other inside dense jungles covered by thick foliage, the area of operation is vast," he said.
The thick jungles in the kingdom were an advantage for the separatist anti-India militants helping them to hide there by providing a natural shelter.
