BSNL launches broadband services in Bangalore

Bangalore: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today (Dec 24, 2003) commercially launched broadband services under the brand name "Data One Broadband" in Bangalore.

The service would comprise video streaming, video on demand, high-speed Internet service, video conferencing using IP, games and e-learning, BSNL officials said at the launch.

Initially, 1,200 connections would be made available till March 31, after which 500 connections would be added every month, they said.

According to them, set-top-box or customer premises equipment would be made available with various options like cash-down payment, monthly instalment, and financing scheme.

Additional value added services proposed in future include audio conferencing (family reunion package), broadcast digital TV, video on demand, school curriculum on 3D interactive learning mode and personal website for domestic users, and Data One SOHO, Data One enterprise service, and managed Local Area Network (LAN) service for commercial users, they said.

There are also plans, under which PCO (public call offices) operators would be able to convert their booths into multi-media centres for internet surfing, conferencing and printing facilities for walk-in customers, BSNL officials said.
