Goodbye Delhi as Rajasthan beckons Khurana Wednesday, December 24 2003 14:05 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Tipped to become Rajasthan Governor, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran Madan Lal Khurana today (Dec 24, 2003) resigned from his Lok Sabha seat, ending his long association with politics of Delhi, where he failed to steer the party to victory in the recent Assembly polls.
Khurana, who was among the prominent leaders who built the BJP and earlier the erstwhile Jan Sangh in Delhi, tendered his resignation to Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi at the Parliament House, a day after the conclusion of the winter session of Parliament.
"I have resigned as per the directives of the party," the 67-year old leader, who represents Delhi Sadar in the Lok Sabha, told reporters after submitting his papers to Speaker Manohar Joshi.
Khurana, who was a former Chief Minister of Delhi, said he had also resigned as Chairman of Delhi Metro.
"I am grateful to the people of Delhi who gave me so much love and affection and I am indebted to them," he said.
Khurana, who failed to steer his party to victory in the December one Assembly polls, has already resigned from the Assembly to which he was elected from his traditional Moti Nagar constituency.
He has also quit as Delhi BJP President after the party's debacle at the hustings and in his place, the party has appointed former Health Minister and national vice-president Harsh Vardhan as the Delhi unit chief.
