Stamp scam: SIT arrests suspended Mumbai cop
Wednesday, December 24 2003 21:11 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Assistant police inspector (API) G W Jadhav of Mumbai police was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) today (Dec 24, 2003) for his alleged complicity in the multi-crore fake stamps scam, sources said in Mumbai.

API Jadhav, who has been placed under suspension following an independent inquiry conducted by Mumbai police, is alleged to have gone soft on prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi, when the scamster was arrested by Colaba police in 1995.

Jadhav was posted at the Colaba police station then and his alleged role helped the scamster get bail in the case, sources said.

The SIT has been probing 16 cases in which Telgi has been booked by Mumbai police since 1995 and has also arrested some police officers in this regard.

Jadhav will be produced in a court at Mumbai tomorrow.
