VHP shifts its 'Conversion Sammelan' venue to Guj Wednesday, December 24 2003 14:06 Hrs (IST) Mumbai:
With the prohibitory order continuing in Navapur in Nandurbar district of Maharashtra, the VHP (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) has decided not to conduct its 'Conversion Sammelan' there and instead shifted its gathering to Dalmati town in neighbouring Gujarat.
"Since Maharashtra Government is not allowing us to hold the 'sammelan' at Navapur, we will now hold it at Dalmati, around two kms from Navapur," VHP state unit chief Vyankatesh Abdev told reporters in Mumbai.
The authorities had clamped section 144 since Monday night (Dec 22) as a precautionary measure after the State Minorities' Commission (MSMC) asked the Government to revoke permission given to Togadia even as VHP expressed its determination to go ahead with the 'Sammelan.'
VHP international general secretary Praveen Togadia was to address a 'Conversion Sammelan' at Navapur this evening, Abdev said adding, Togadia will now address it at Dalmati.
Stating that the VHP will protest against the State Government's anti-tribal and anti-Hindu policy, Abdev further said, "We have called a 'bandh' in Nandurbar on December 25 to protest against refusal to conduct the 'sammelan' there."
