Delhiites today (Dec 25, 2003) continued to reel under cold wave conditions even as fog disrupted air and rail traffic movement.
Several incoming and outgoing flights were rescheduled following settling down of thick fog on the Indira Gandhi International Airport runway.
The Met office recorded the minimum temperature at 8.4 degrees celsius during night which was normal. However, the visibility in the capital had slipped below 150 metres causing inconvenience to morning goers.
Some trains were also rescheduled due to poor visibility.
Delhi Government has made elaborate arrangements to provide night shelter to homeless people following reports that people were killed in northern part of the country following biting cold.
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has instructed the Social Welfare Minister Yoganand Shastri to monitor and keep a constant vigil on the situation arising out of the severe cold and the arrangements for homeless people.
The Delhi Government has already identified five places for accommodating the homeless people in the national capital, an official spokesman said in New Delhi.
He said apart from the above mentioned, 10 additional sites had been kept in readiness for providing additional space.
Nearly 3000 people were already availing of these facilities and additional space for another 5000 people was in readiness, the spokesman added.
