| | US supports Musharraf; war on terrorism continues Saturday, December 27 2003 11:08 Hrs (IST) Washington:
Reiterating its support to Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf, United States has said the recent assassination bids on him underlines the need to continue the war on terror.
"It's a reminder that the war on terrorism continues," White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan said yesterday (Dec 27, 2003).
"President Musharraf has been a strong partner in our global war on terrorism. We will continue to work with him on our global efforts," he said.
The Pakistani General survived two back-to-back assassination bids in Rawalpindi on Christmas Day.
Musharraf was not hurt, but the blasts near a petrol pump killed 15 people and injured 46, including several policemen.
The attack was the second attempt on Musharraf's life in less than two weeks.
In a televised address, the Pakistan President blamed terrorists and communal forces for the attempt on his life and vowed to "cleanse the country of these extremists."
