There is no parallel to Congress, says Sonia Gandhi

Mumbai: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today (Dec 27, 2003) said there was no parallel to her party and that it was Congress, which had laid the foundation of the democracy and progress in the last few decades.

Addressing a mammoth rally at Shivaji Park grounds in Mumbai, Gandhi said Congress was born in Mumbai 118 years ago and the party would celebrate its anniversary tomorrow.

Speaking in Hindi, the Congress president recalled the contribution of renowned saints of Maharashtra, Sant Gyaneshwar, Sant Tukaram and Jyotiba Phule.

She hailed the significant contribution of former party leaders V P Naik, Y B Chavan and Vasantdada Patil to the growth of Maharashtra.
