No problem in holding early LS polls: Lyngdoh Tuesday, December 30 2003 20:30 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
The Election Commission today (Dec 30, 2003) said that there should not be any problem in holding elections in April/May.
"Early elections are possible. Technically it should be possible," Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh told NDTV 24x7.
Asked whether he expected any problem in holding elections in April/May, the CEC said, "In my opinion, no."
But it was for his colleagues to decide as he would retire in February.
"I won't be there," he said.
Lyngdoh said that technically there would not be any problem in holding elections in April/May and after that monsoon would arrive in June.
Observing that electoral rolls were revised every year with respect to January 1, he said that there was enough time for holding elections in April-May as electoral rolls were the most important part of elections.
