Judeo's bribe-taking video genuine: Forensic experts
Tuesday, December 30 2003 15:43 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Forensic experts have found the videotape purportedly showing former Union Minister Dilip Singh Judeo taking bribe to be "genuine" and not doctored, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sources said in New Delhi today (Dec 30, 2003).

The Andhra Pradesh State Forensic Science Laboratory, in its report to the CBI, said the video sequence of the tape has not been tampered with, they said.

"There is continuity in the tape and lip synchronisation (of all characters in the tape) is also perfect," the sources said quoting the report.

The sources said according to the report no picture has been super-imposed and those shown on the tape are "genuine". However, some editing has been done to hide certain faces, they said.

The videotape created a political controversy leading to the resignation of Judeo from the Union Council of Ministers.

The CBI had on December 21 registered a regular case against Judeo, his additional personal secretary Natwar Rateria, Bhupender Singh Patel (alias Rahul) who had allegedly given bribe of Rs 9 lakh to the Minister and Anand Vijay Mohan (the person who allegedly shot the video).

All four have been charged under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, (POTA) including Section Seven (taking gratification as a public servant) and section 120 (B) Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with criminal conspiracy.

The agency has already served notices to Mohan and Patel to appear before the CBI for questioning.
