Bush hopes Pak will deal firmly with extremists Friday, January 2 2004 10:13 Hrs (IST) Washington:
Expressing fear that terrorists were after the life of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, who survived two assassination attempts last month, US President George W Bush has said he was confident that Pakistan security forces will crackdown on the terror network.
Bush, who spoke to Musharraf by phone recently said, "Obviously terrorists are after him, and he sounded very confident that his security forces would be able to deal with the threat."
"...Therefore I feel confident about his security situation," he said yesterday (Jan 01, 2004).
"I told him how much I was hopeful that he continued to join us in the war on terror," Bush said at Falfurrias near Texas.
President Musharraf, said Bush, has been a friend of the United States. He has been a "stand-up guy" when it comes to dealing with the terrorists.
"We are making progress against the al-Qaeda because of his cooperation," Bush said adding, "We need to do more, particularly on the Pakistan-Afghan border."
