Friday, January 2 2004 11:57 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: One person was killed and at least half a dozen people are reportedly injured when a foot over bridge collapsed on a suburban train at Dombivali railway station in neighbouring Thane district, some 50 kms from Mumbai this morning (Jan 2, 2004), Railway sources said.

The person killed was a labourer, who was working on the foot over bridge that collapsed, SPS Jain, Chief PRO, Railways, said.

Jain further said the injured people were travelling in the second compartment of the Khopoli-bound suburban train that had started from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST).

Traffic on all four lines of Central Railway has been discontinued and attempts are being made to restore at least two lines at the earliest, Jain said.

Power supply to the railway lines has been switched off as precautionary measure, he added.
