Dense fog brings air traffic to a halt in Delhi
Friday, January 2 2004 12:24 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Air traffic came to a standstill for over six hours at the Indira Gandhi international airport in New Delhi since early this morning (Jan 2, 2004), as a thick blanket of fog enveloped the national capital, which also hit rail movement badly.

Though air traffic was normal till 4.00 hrs (IST) today, runway visibility range suddenly dipped to less than 150 metres following dense fog, which resulted in the traffic coming to a halt, airport sources said.

The sources said there was no take off and landing between 4.00 hrs to 10.00 hrs (IST).

Northern Railway also reported cancellation of some trains while several others were running late. The cancelled trains include Kalindi Express, Lal Quila Express, Jammu Tawi-Delhi Express, Delhi-Jaipur Express and Satyagrah Express.

Normal life was affected as Delhiites faced icy winds and biting cold conditions, besides the thick fog.
