Mulayam complains to EC of discrepancies in voter lists
Friday, January 2 2004 14:53 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today (Jan 2, 2004) met Election Commission and complained about alleged discrepancies in voter lists in a number of constituencies and demanded corrective measures before Lok Sabha elections. Emerging from the hour-long meeting with the Election Commission, Yadav said he would be filing his nomination paper on January 5 for Gannaur Assembly constituency for January 24 by-election.

The Commission, Yadav said, has assured him to look into the charge of "irregularities" in the electoral rolls.

The Chief Minister alleged that previous Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition Government deleted the names of his partymen in several constituencies, particularly in Lucknow, Kanpur, Lakhimpurkhiri and many other places.

He said he has received complaints from many voters that they have not yet received their photo identity cards.

The Gannaur Assembly seat in district Badaun was vacated by party MLA Ajit Kumar to facilitate entry of Yadav into State Assembly.
