Star News gets uplinking rights from India, finally
Friday, January 2 2004 21:08 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Star News has finally got uplinking rights from India, bringing the curtain down on the issue which turned into a controversy in the year gone by.

Official sources said that Star News has been granted the rights for a period of 10 years from the New Year's day.

The Government nod to Star News followed the wholly foreign-owned news channel of Rupert Murdoch scaling down its foreign equity with Kolkata-based ABP Ltd becoming the dominant partner with 74 per cent equity. The remaining 26 per cent equity remained with Star group.

Application for uplinking by Star News last year had resulted in the review of uplinking guidelines for news channels.
