ULFA leader 'Mama' remanded to judicial custody

Tezpur (Assam): United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) founder and political ideologue Bhimkanta Buragohain alias "Mama" and three other ULFA leaders were today (Jan 02, 2004) remanded to 12 days judicial custody by the Sonitpur Chief Judicial Magistrate.

The court also directed to keep in safe custody the recovered Bhutanese currencies with police as also the arms found from them.

Later talking to reporters, Buragohain expressed the confidence that the ULFA would be able to achieve its goal to have a "sovereign country".

He said, Bhutan was a friendly country but the Royal Bhutan Army (RBA), which was currently carrying out operation had "betrayed us".
