148 killed as Egyptian plane crashes into Red Sea

Cairo: An Egyptian plane carrying 135 passengers - mostly French - and 13 crewmembers crashed into the Red Sea early today (Jan 3, 2004), Cairo airport officials said.

The Boeing 737 went down shortly after taking off from the seaside resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, they said.
