No question of returning to BJP: Kalyan Singh
Sunday, January 4 2004 19:45 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh today (Jan 4, 2004) ruled out returning to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but his Rashtriya Krantikari Party (RKP), at its much-publicised national executive meeting, kept alive the suspense authorising him to take "any political decision in this regard".

"There is no question of joining BJP," he told reporters in reply to a question after the meeting.

"There never was any proposal for returning to the BJP and the matter was not discussed at today's meeting," Singh said repeatedly on being grilled by reporters.

"I have not held any discussions with the Sangh Parivar leaders in this regard...Neither had I received any proposal from the BJP nor had any talks with RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) leaders," he said.

Singh said he would not do "anything that harms" the coalition Government headed by Mulyam Singh Yadav in the State.

However, a resolution passed by the national executive authorised Singh to "take any political decision in the midst of media reports (of his possible return to BJP)".

"Singh had gone to meet (Prime Minister Atal Bihari) Vajpayee to greet him on the eve of his birthday. It was a courtesy call. Speculations in the media started soon after his meeting with Vajpayee," the resolution said.
