Six arrested for attempt on Musharraf's life Sunday, January 4 2004 10:34 Hrs (IST) Islamabad:
Islamabad: Pakistani security agencies have arrested six suspected members of the banned militant outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) in connection with the Christmas day assassination bid on President Pervez Musharraf.
The six were arrested from a mosque in Lahore, security sources were quoted as saying by the 'Daily Times' today (Jan 4, 2004).
Four of the arrested men belonged to JeM, or its alias Khudam ul Islam or the radical Sunni outfit Sipah-e-Sahaba, which has renamed itself Milat-e-Islamia. The other two had links with Lashkar, the report said.
The arrest follows identification of one of the suicide attacker Muhammad Jamil, a member of Jaish.
Musharraf survived two assassination attempts within seconds of each other when two suicide bombers tried to crash their explosive-laden vehicles into his convoy at Rawalpindi on December 25.
