Four militants killed, two hideouts busted in Jammu

Jammu: Four militants including a district commander were killed and three security personnel injured in different militancy-related incidents in Doda and Udhampur districts of Jammu division where security forces apprehended two Over Ground Workers (OWGs) and busted two militant hideouts since yesterday (Jan 4, 2004), official sources said in Jammu today (Jan 5, 2004).

Two militants of Harkat-ul Jehadi Islami (HuJI) were eliminated by security forces during counter-terrorist operation in Kishtwar area of Doda district today, they said adding two AK rifles and two hand grenades were recovered from them.

The slain ultras have been identified as Shafi Gujar alias Babbar and Rashid Mir alias Khandhari, both locals of Doda district.

In another operation, security forces killed two ultras of Hizbul Mujaheedin (HM) in Mahore area of Udhampur district, the sources said and added they have been identified as Mulang Jan Afghani, district commander of HM for Rajouri and Altaf Mohammad.

The recoveries from the slain militants included one AK rifle along with four magazines and 116 rounds, one pistol with one magazine and 16 rounds, two hand grenades, one radio set, one dicta-phone and Rs 501.

Two security personnel were injured in an encounter with militants in Ari village of Gursai area in Poonch district during the period, they said.

One special police officer (SPO) was injured in cross firing between militants and security forces in general area of Deedh in Gool tehsil of Udhampur district.
