'TDP ready for simultaneous LS and Assembly polls' Monday, January 5 2004 20:23 Hrs (IST) Hyderabad:
Asserting that his party was ready to face simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today (Jan 5, 2004) justified the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)'s moves to advance LS polls on the ground of continuity in development.
"We do not have any objection (if Lok Sabha polls are advanced)," he told reporters.
However, Naidu, a key outside supporter of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA at the Centre, said no decision had been conveyed to him so far by the BJP leadership on advancing polls.
"Like you, I am also getting indications of early LS polls," Naidu, who is seeking early Assembly polls on the twin plank of naxalite violence and "obstructionist politics" of the Opposition, said.
Asked what could be the plausible grounds for seeking early LS polls, the Chief Minister said, "As far as AP is concerned, there is a solid justification for seeking fresh mandate (in the wake of naxalite attack on him). The NDA leaders say that there is a justifiable ground to go for early polls so that we can concentrate on future development."
Joining the BJP leaders in invoking the "feel-good factor", Naidu said, "The mood of people is favourable and there is a new sense of hope in the country."
