| | 'Scribe hatched a conspiracy to target Daya Nayak' Monday, January 5 2004 21:00 Hrs (IST) Mumbai:
In a new twist to the case of alleged nexus of police with underworld, a lady social worker today (Jan 5, 2004) alleged in a special court that city journalist Ketan Tirodkar had hatched a conspiracy to target dedicated police officer Daya Nayak by linking him to the underworld.
Even as the judge A P Bhangale accepted her affidavit, the journalist alleged that two constables from crime intelligence unit had escorted the lady at the instance of inspector Nayak and were even present in the court.
The judge ordered the security to produce the constables but by then they had left the court in a huff. Tirodkar chased them but could not lay his hands on the duo.
Tirodkar's lawyer Amin Solkar alleged that the affidavit filed by 33-year-old Parvinder Kaur was full of allegations and was made at the instance of inspector Nayak, who earns the distinction of gunning down 70 gangsters in encounters.
Kaur alleged that Tirodkar wanted to make her a witness in the complaint lodged by him against Nayak and had called her on December 19 to a place where she was introduced to three other witnesses. All the witnesses were tutored by Tirodkar to depose against Nayak, Kaur alleged saying she had tape-recorded the talks of Tirodkar with the witnesses.
Outside the court, Tirodkar said he was not aware of any affidavit filed by Kaur and said he was determined in his fight to expose the nexus of police with underworld.
Nayak was transferred recently from crime branch to a local police station. The court had earlier ordered a probe by an ACP into Tirodkar's allegations and allowed raids on Nayak's premises.
