Joint Trust proposes solution to Ayodhya issue
Tuesday, January 6 2004 22:44 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: The Ayodhya Jama Masjid Trust (AJMT), which has been making efforts to resolve the vexed Ram temple issue, today (Jan 6, 2004) urged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to take steps to execute the Ayodhya Act, which provided for construction of a temple, a mosque and other suitable facilities at the acquired land in the temple town.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Trust chief S A Rizvi said he had proposed that the 47 acres of land, previously acquired by the State Government, be restored to the temple trust for building the Ram temple complex.

Rizvi said his Trust has chosen an undisputed piece of land in a Muslim locality, away from the Janmabhoomi area, which might be provided to it for the construction of the Ayodhya Jama Masjid complex.

"The construction of the temple and mosque at Ayodhya will change the scenario and send a strong message of unity and unique understanding throughout the country," he said.

The AJMT was established to shoulder the responsibility of construction of the mosque complex, he said adding its proposal that Muslims voluntarily withdraw their claim over the disputed site was based on "the sense of our mission of peace, an honour to Shri Ram and respect to the devotees, our Hindu brethren".

He said AJMT would be organising an All India Muslim Intellectuals conference in New Delhi shortly "to evolve a national consensus on our formula".

The rector of Nadwa-Tul-Ulema Maulana Rabe Hasani Nadvi and Babri Masjid Action Committee convenor Zafaryab Jilani have also been invited to participate in it.
