Pak assures co-operation in Iran-India gas pipeline Tuesday, January 6 2004 15:45 Hrs (IST) Islamabad:
Pakistan today (Jan 6, 2004) assured of its co-operation in the proposed gas pipeline from Iran to India through its territory.
This assurance was held out by Pakistan Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali to his Indian counterpart Atal Bihari Vajpayee during their meeting on the sidelines of the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation) Summit.
"We did not oppose it. We won't oppose it," Jamali said he had told Vajpayee during their meeting.
Replying to a question at a press conference after conclusion of the 12th SAARC Summit, Jamali said that he had told Vajpayee, "Could you look into it as it helps you more than us? Pakistan is self-sufficient in energy."
"I would like to contribute towards India as a good gesture. The ball is in Indian Prime Minister's court," he said.
