Mamata Banerjee gets Coal and Mines portfolio

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, who was minister without portfolio for over four months, was today (Jan 8, 2004) given charge of Coal and Mines in the Union Government.

The Ministries of Coal and Mines were being held by Karia Munda and Ramesh Bais respectively.

Banerjee, who was re-inducted into the Cabinet on September 8, gets charge of both Ministries together.

Sources said Munda was likely to be given the Non-Conventional Energy portfolio.
