| | US observing reports on Pak nukes to Libya Thursday, January 8 2004 14:16 Hrs (IST) Washington:
United States was looking into the reports that Pakistan gave nuclear weapons technology to Libya and was waiting to hear from Islamabad on the issue, the
State Department has said.
"Government of Pakistan is actually looking into some of these reports. And so we'll -- I guess we'll expect to hear from them what might or might not have happened," spokesman Richard Boucher said yesterday (Jan 7, 2004).
He said that United States has not made any "allegations" that Pakistan gave nuclear weapons technology to Libya but "we have discussed the issue over the last few days."
US Secretary of State Colin Powell on Tuesday (Jan 6, 2004) said that President Pervez Musharraf was aggressively probing the claims that Pakistan was the source of the centrifuge design technology in Libya's nuclear programme.
"We know that there have been cases where individuals in Pakistan have worked in these areas and we have called it to the attention of the Pakistanis in the past," Powell said.
