| | Ten ULFA, NDFB militants surrender before Army Thursday, January 8 2004 17:40 Hrs (IST) Guwahati:
Ten hardcore militants belonging to the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) today (Jan 8, 2004) surrendered before the Army in Assam's Darrang district, official sources said.
Six NDFB and four ULFA militants surrendered before GoC Ball of Fire Division Major General M S Rathore at Borrangjuli with large quantities of arms and ammunition.
Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen Rathore said the Army has launched a campaign in close cooperation with the civil population to urge militants to surrender and lead a new life.
He also appealed to the families of the militants to emphasise upon their wards to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream.
The surrendered militants also said on the occasion that they were totally disillusioned with the armed movement and that many of their cadres wanted to surrender.
