Stamp scam: Quadri names four police personnel Friday, January 9 2004 22:28 Hrs (IST) Hyderabad:
A key operative in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, Mohammed Abdul Waheed Quadri alias Raees Quadri, now in the custody of Andhra Pradesh's special investigation team (SIT) has reportedly named four police officers who helped scamsters run their operation in Andhra Pradesh.
Director general of police (DGP) S R Sukumra said today (Jan 9, 2004) the SIT, probing the scam in the State, submitted a sealed letter before a designated court in which Quadri, who was arrested on January 2 in Hyderabad, mentioned the name of four police officials who allegedly helped Telgi to operate his fake stamp paper business.
When asked to identify the four police officers, whose names were mentioned by Quadri, the DGP expressed his ignorance, saying that a sealed letter was submitted by SIT on the basis of a confessional statement of the accused before a court and now the case was under prejudice.
Sukumra, however, said mere confession of an accused could not be taken into cognisance. "We have to ascertain its authenticity," he said.
