'JeM involved in Jammu railway station attack' Saturday, January 10 2004 13:58 Hrs (IST) Jammu:
The banned terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad was involved in the January 2 Jammu railway station attack which killed seven persons, including four jawans and two militants, top intelligence sources said today (Jan 10, 2004).
The intercept of JeM recorded by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Hinternad in Kashmir valley on January 8 revealed that the organisation was responsible for the attack, the sources said.
The intercept between JeM deputy chief, Kashmir valley, code-named "Charlee-6" and another commander in Kashmir revealed that "the attack was unsuccessful as some informer had leaked the plan to the security agencies", the sources said.
The message intercepted by the BSF was "Hamara plan kamyab nahi hua. Kisi mukhbir ne information security waloon ko diya hain."
Three members of JeM suicide squad led by Yasir Bahai code-named VR alias "Tangoo-2", who was operating in Srinagar city, was instrumental in the attack on the railway station, the sources quoting from the message, said.
Two of three ultras were killed, while Yasir managed to escape, they added.
The security agencies feel that the attack was aimed to scuttle Indo-Pak peace efforts and create a wedge between the two countries.
