Manmohan would make a good PM: Somnath Chatterjee Saturday, January 10 2004 10:01 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
In significant remarks, in the midst of the Opposition's search for a joint anti-BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) front and its leader in Lok Sabha polls, veteran CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) leader Somnath Chatterjee said senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh is expected to be a good Prime Minister and commended his administrative skill and probity.
"Manmohan Singh is known to be a good administrator. He has held many important positions including the Governorship of Reserve Bank of India. He has been found to be a man of great circumspection," Chatterjee, leader of CPI (M) Parliamentary party, told Aaj Tak.
He said, Singh "has already earned a lot of respect for his role as the leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha and also as Finance Minister. He is a man with impeccable record of probity. Nobody has ever alleged any misconduct as far as financial irregularities are concerned."
"But how will be the Prime Minister...but he is expected to be a good Prime Minister," the Marxist leader said.
Chatterjee's remarks assume importance, given the reservations among a section of Congress' potential allies in the coming Lok Sabha elections about party chief Sonia
Gandhi's leadership.
