The US (United States) today (Jan 9,2004) said it did not have a roadmap to solve the Kashmir issue and wanted to remain fully engaged to have a "comfortable" Pakistan.
"I don't have the roadmap but hope the issue will be resolved," US Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage told PTV (Pakistan Television) when asked about prospects of a solution to Kashmir issue.
He expressed confidence that the issue will be resolved to the mutual satisfaction of Pakistan, India and the Kashmiris.
"I just have great deal of more confidence now that the issue will be resolved peacefully and to the mutual satisfaction of both India and Pakistan and most importantly the people of Kashmir," he told PTV.
He paid rich tributes to the statesmanship of President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for agreeing to start a composite dialogue.
"United States joins the Western world in congratulating the statesmanship of President Musharraf and Prime Minister Vajpayee as they have agreed to start a dialogue in February," Armitage said.
"We intend to be fully engaged to have a comfortable Pakistan," he added.
"Across the full range of Pak-US relationship the global war on Terrorism is certainly one. I am talking of cultural, social and economic co-operation as well," he added.
