No decision yet on inviting Advani: Pakistan Monday, January 12 2004 18:31 Hrs (IST) Islamabad:
Pakistan today (Jan 12, 2004) said no decision has yet been taken to invite Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani to discuss issues including signing of an extradition treaty.
Playing down a media report that Interior Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat had extended an invitation to Advani, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan told reporters, "No decision has been taken yet about this invitation. I also read some reports in the press."
"But no invitation has been extended yet and as and when it is extended you will know about it."
He also denied reports about speculations on India and Pakistan moving towards signing an extradition treaty.
"Nothing of that sort is happening at the moment, let me clarify," Khan said.
Speculation is rife ever since Hayat told a local newspaper three days ago that he was extending an invitation to Advani to discuss among other things finalisation of an extradition treaty between the two countries.
In his interview, Hayat said he was extending invitation to Advani through the media and promised to send a formal invitation later.
Pakistan Foreign Office however has refrained to comment on his interview, while Advani himself has clarified that he has not received any invitation.
