Wednesday, January 14 2004 19:02 Hrs (IST)

Sibsagar: Passengers of the Delhi-bound Brahmaputra Mail had a providential escape when suspected ULFA militants removed fish-plates which caused the derailment of a goods train instead in Sibsagar district of Assam in the early hours today (Jan 14, 2004).

Official sources said that the militants removed the fish-plates when the Brahmaputra Mail was to pass between Namati and Amguri but as it was late by 30 minutes, a goods train crossed the area and nine of its bogies were derailed.

There was however no casualty in the incident.

Senior Railway and police officials have rushed to the spot and started investigation.

Traffic on the section, which was suspended following the derailment has resumed.
