Breakaway Hurriyat chief Geelani in preventive custody

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference breakaway faction chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani was today (Jan 15, 2004) taken into preventive custody along with two of his associates at Soura on the city outskirts in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

Geelani, who was scheduled to address a Friday congregation at the shrine of Jenab Sahib Soura, was detained by police outside Skims hospital, while he was on his way to the shrine, they said.

The three were later moved to Soura police station, they added.
