AIADMK thinking twice about not having tie ups Saturday, January 17 2004 14:32 Hrs (IST) Chennai:
In a slight change in its stand of maintaining equidistance from the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) today (Jan 17, 2004) indicated that it was not averse to a tie-up with any political party for the coming Lok Sabha polls.
When specifically asked by reporters about her earlier statement in the Assembly on forming a non-Congress non-BJP front at the Centre, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo replied, "Politics is all about changes and flexibility."
Jayalalithaa declined to comment on whether Prime Minister A B Vajpayee or Deputy Premier L K Advani had contacted her regarding the coming elections.
Stating that she had nothing more to say, the AIADMK leader said, "When I have something, I will let you know."
Yesterday, Jayalalithaa had hinted that the AIADMK might contest the polls on its own by saying that unless the party's voice was raised in unison in the Lok Sabha, it would not be possible for the state to realise its rights.
Earlier, Jayalalithaa had garlanded a statue of former Chief Minister, the late M G Ramachandran on the occasion of his 87th birth anniversary at the AIADMK party headquarters.
She also distributed sweets to her Cabinet colleagues and party workers.
