Peace activists condemn US for use of power against nations Sunday, January 18 2004 12:59 Hrs (IST) Mumbai:
Senior activist engaged in encouraging peace initiative across the world today (Jan 18, 2004) condemned the United States' use of power against various countries and urged for mobilising masses against those enthralling war for their personal interest.
Speaking on "Against war and militarisation", Chandra Muzzaffar of Malaysia, said that the global civil society has a major role to in the peace initiatives.
"Focussing on specific issues mobilisation of the masses should be done by creating a public opinion against war. Build pressure against the US and its allies from being for any war," he said.
Abdul Amir Rebaky, Iraqi leader pressing for peace in the country, said the major current in the Arab world is struggle through non-violence and the image created of them to be violent and aggressive was not true.
"The anti-globalisation campaign can only lead to another super power that will be in the larger interest of the public, he said adding that would tackle the interest of the few that
want to dominate the world," Rebaky said.
Rebaky said that mere demonstration was not enough to stop the powerful from showing the strength on others for personal interest and a real strategy was needed to influence the
powerful.
