'Ram temple issue complicated due to politicisation' Monday, January 19 2004 22:19 Hrs (IST) Varanasi:
Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama today (Jan 19, 2004) expressed concern over politicisation of the Ram Temple issue and said it should be resolved through dialogue.
"Due to politicisation of the Ram Temple issue, it has become complicated," he told reporters at the Tibetan Institute in Sarnath, about 15 kms from Varanasi.
The Dalai Lama said he was optimistic that the vexed temple issue could be resolved through dialogue.
In reply to a question, he said he had no formula to resolve the issue. But 'Vipashyana Society' president Satya Marain Goenka was engaged in the issue and he could be able to do some thing in this connection, he said.
Neither Hindus nor Muslims should feel "defeat or victory" when the issue was resolved through dialogue, he said.
On the issue of Tibet, the Dalai Lama hoped that in the era of globalisation the new leadership of China would accept the demand for autonomy for the Tibetan people.
In reply to another question, he said the ties between India and China were very good and hoped that they would become stronger.
"There is no threat to India from China," he said in reply to another query.
Earlier, the Dalai Lama addressed the students and teachers of the Higher Tibetan Institute and offered prayers at the Buddha Temple in Sarnath.
