South African judge held for rape in Mumbai

Mumbai: A High Court judge from South Africa has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman at a five-star hotel in South Mumbai.

The judge and the victim both of same nationality have come to participate in the ongoing World Social Forum (WSF) meet, police said today (Jan 19, 2004).

The victim, working as a project manager of AIDS Awareness Resources Trust in South Africa, was occupying a room in a five-star hotel at Cuffe Parade, where she was allegedly raped yesterday (Jan 18, 2004) morning by the High Court judge, also staying in the same hotel.

The judge was arrested late last night, police said.

Medical tests have already been conducted on the judge and the victim, police said adding that material evidence seized from the hotel room has been sent to forensic laboratory.
